What’s the difference between custom label, white label, or private label beer?
CUSTOM LABEL BEER (A.K.A. PERSONALIZED BEER)
Smaller batches (20 cases or more / 480 cans of beer) that are usually for company events, big celebrations like weddings or big parties, or gift packages. You pick the beer style, we source the brewery in your state (samples may be available depending on location and size of order), and then choose/design the custom label.
IMPORTANT: THIS BEER CANNOT BE RESOLD.
WHITE LABEL BEER
This type of labeling is for hospitality businesses (mostly restaurants or venues) that have brand equity and want to parlay that brand recognition into selling a beer based on their brand. In cans or kegs, a brewery will produce the beer with a set amount of volume over the course of a contract. Custom labels are printed and applied to the cans, or draft handles (pulls) are produced for the bar to serve draft beer. The client selects the beer style, and we source the brewery in-state. In this case, samples are made available to client. Depending on length and volume of contract, the brewery may be open to adjustments to the taste, recipe, or brewing process.
KEY DISTINCTION: THE CONTRACT & BEER ARE NOT EXCLUSIVE TO THE CLIENT. THE BREWERY MAY SELL THE BEER TO THEIR OWN CUSTOMERS WITH A DIFFERENT LABEL OR TO OTHER WHITE LABEL CLIENTS WITH ITS OWN CUSTOM LABEL.
IMPORTANT: BEER MUST BE RESOLD, OR DESTROYED IF NOT USED, IN ACCORDANCE WITH STATE LAW.
PRIVATE LABEL BEER
This is high volume beer production for large hospitality companies or national (sometime international) consumer goods corporations. Similar to white label beer requests, these companies already have distribution in place and the financial resources to create a new brand from scratch. In cans and/or kegs, a brewery will produce the beer with a set amount of volume over the course of a contract. Custom labels are created for cans. Depending on volume, those labels will be printed and applied to cans or printed directly onto cans. Draft handles (pulls) are produced to serve draft beer. The client selects the beer style, and we source the brewery in-state. The client works directly with the brewery to adjustment to the taste, recipe, or brewing process to the needs of the client.
KEY DISTINCTION: THE CONTRACT & BEER ARE EXCLUSIVE TO THE CLIENT. THE BREWERY CANNOT SELL THE BEER TO THEIR OWN CUSTOMERS OR TO OTHER CLIENTS.
IMPORTANT: BEER MUST BE RESOLD, OR DESTROYED IF NOT USED, IN ACCORDANCE WITH STATE LAW.
CONTRACT BREWING
Brewery to brewery (B2B), this type of custom beer production is brokered when an up and coming brewery receives a large order out of the blue and simply does not have the capacity to produce the beer in time. It could be a one time order or the growing business does not have the capital to expand their operation. The beer is produced and shipped without label.
Brewing has been around since around 6000 BC, and archaeological evidence shows that many civilizations brewed beer at that time. Descriptions of various beer recipes can be found in cuneiform (the oldest known writing) from ancient Mesopotamia.
Though many are familiar with the production of beer, most would love to tweak familiar recipes, have their own beer label, or just learn more about how a starch source (cereal grains) and water to come together in fermentation to make beer.
Beer is proof that the universe loves you and wants you to be happy.
– Said a Happy Person –
Though German brewers seem to have perfected the brewing process with the 4 “authorized” grains, most other breweries around the world are not constrained by Reinheitsgebot, Germany’s beer regulations. The options and variations continue to surprise us all with new savory, sweet, and sour options for almost any taste preference or palate.
